This was how I responded to the realization that: yes, I just finished writing my novel.
"I can't believe it... I just finished writing my novel! OMFRACKINGERSWHIN! HOLY CANNOLI BATMAN! RANDOM NERDY INTERJECTION! B)
....
Now for the long period of revising and editing..."
That was my Facebook update that I just had to post. (It received numerous "likes" and comments because I have some of the best, most supportive friends in the whole wide world.)
Really, finishing a novel is an exciting experience, hence the random nerdy interjections. After an entire summer and then some of work on this long, challenging novel writing adventure, I was relieved to be able to finally say: I'm done!
Sort of...
Because a writer is never really done with her novel until it's published or she decides to abandon it. I am doing neither. I'd like to point out that I mentioned, amid the excited exclamations, that I will now be going through a long period of revising and editing. This period of rewriting will be just as stressful, labor intensive, and hopefully fun as writing it was... maybe more so.
So, I'd like to kick off the blog by saying that I will most definitely be writing about this new adventure, and more. I will also add that I probably will be going off my amazing (and sometimes irksome) experience as a journalist. Perhaps a poem here and there, too.
I don't know if this will ever get read, but maybe I'll have just one reader who decides to follow me on my journey. Whoever you are or will be, thank you. I'd like to promise you that it will be worthwhile, but I really can't do that. I assure you, though, that there is a high chance that this will be entertaining and it will most certainly be writerly.
Still upset that writerly is not a word,
M. Noel
